Flip Joint
Overview
Flip Joint is a command for flipping an assembly joint in Inventor. This tool allows you to quickly reverse the direction or orientation of a joint, which can be useful for adjusting component alignment or correcting assembly connections.
When you run the command, you are prompted to select a component to expose its joints, followed by a prompt to select the joint to flip. The selected component must have at least one joint; otherwise, no action is taken.
On the Inventor Edit Joint dialog box, this is equivalent to picking the Flip Component toggle button under "Connect." This command streamlines the process and makes it easy to flip joints directly from the assembly environment.
How It Works
- Launch the Flip Joint command from the Configure panel.
- Select the component to expose its joints.
- Select the joint you want to flip.
- The joint is flipped, reversing its direction or orientation.
Usage Instructions
- Open your assembly in Inventor.
- Click the Flip Joint button in the Configure panel.
- Select the component and then the joint to flip when prompted.
- Verify the joint has flipped as expected.
Troubleshooting
- If the joint does not flip, ensure the component has at least one joint.
- Check for grounding or other constraints that may prevent flipping.
- If the result is not as expected, review the joint's connection settings.
Examples
- Flip a duct joint: Select a duct component and flip its joint to change the connection direction.
- Reverse a pipe joint: Flip a pipe joint to adjust the flow or alignment in the assembly.
- Correct a misaligned connection: Use Flip Joint to quickly fix joint orientation issues.

In the snip below, the duct with the clean out door is selected and the left joint is picked. The result is the joint (and duct) is flipped overlapping the ductwork to the left.
